In my free time, I love creative design as well as video editing.
My Editing "Career"
My definition of editing = cooking raw video files together with music, beats, and special effects
My editing career began after my best friend’s post on Chinese TikTok got 1,000 likes. Though the video wasn’t hers, she had reposted something from Instagram — the amazing blend of music, transitions, and footage was popular on any platform. I started doing the same, and we kept getting 999+ likes. While lost in the constant notifications of likes, saves, and followers, I still felt hollow. The video wasn’t mine. They were liking it not for me. And then I wondered —
Why couldn’t I be like them?
So I self-studied Adobe After Effects and Alight Motion, the software that my role models seemed to use effortlessly but that felt distant to me. There weren’t many tutorials online, and the apps were difficult to use, yet I became obsessed...

When our principal included my edit in her end of year speech!

The first tutorial I posted on Rednote! I was really happy that 987 people favorited it, meaning that at least few hundred people are learning After Effects from my tutorial! (I struggled so much when learning it)

"Contours of Identities"

My design installation that weaves light and shadow to create an immersive exploration of my multicultural journey.
It features four laser-engraved acrylic panels, each portraying unique facets of my heritage: two opposite panels show me in traditional Chinese and Western clothing, respectively, while the other two reveal contrasting images of my China.
The form of the installation draws on Antoni Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia, symbolizing another layer of my identity: learning the Spanish language.
When illuminated, these panels project a beautiful blend of light and dark on the walls. The opposing panels, though physically separated, blend under a single light source.
This shows how seemingly distinct cultural elements harmonize and connect through a shared inner light.
"My Life"
I aimed to display the full internal places in my mind to the viewers, turning that invisible place deep down in my mind into a tangible and artistic space.
The deeper meanings I want to convey to the audience revolve around the worthiness of life; how it consists of negative emotions, but everyone is destined to reach their own podium and gain their own trophy, especially with the energy (something I tried to visualize through the curves)
This project is a journey of self-exploration that organizes and categorizes my main emotions into physical spaces, allowing myself to confront my internal thoughts and reflect on my life. This project also encourages my audience to do the same.
This project was inspired by different perspectives and impossible architectures, both of which distort the audience’s perceptions of reality. The impossible architectures show the impossibility to level up in life sometimes and the way how life is. It also shows how life can be unconventional and absurd, appearing as if there is no way out, but actually, my impossible staircases have many possible routes for the performers to take.
